There is a well-documented failure mode in VAG group vehicles where the plastic ignition barrel wears prematurely through normal use. The key begins to feel stiff, then eventually stops turning entirely. This is particularly common in Golf IV, Golf V, Golf VI, Polo, Passat, Audi A3, Audi A4, SEAT Ibiza, SEAT León, Skoda Octavia and Skoda Fabia.
